Beta Glucan

β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan
This revolutionary all-natural immune cell activator and anti-tumor polysaccharide is derived from the cell wall extraction of specific paecilomyces spp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae ad ganoderma lucidum. Biofeed patented special fermentation process has only recently been able to produce this highly purified form of β1, 3-β1, 6-D-glucan in commercial quantity to be used in the animal husbandry.

How does β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan work on the immune system?

There are highly specialized receptors on the surface of large immune system cells called macrophages that can be activated by β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan. Since the macrophage is evidently unable to distinguish the β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan linkage from a primary pathogen at specific receptor sites, it triggers and activates a “cascade” of immune events in much the same manner as if an actual pathogenic challenge existed, turning the immune system into “an arsenal” of defence. An activated macrophage can recognize pathogenic and tumor cells non-specifically, it can also produce a number of essential cytokines ( Interleukin-1 IL-1, Interleukin-6 IL-6 and Tumor Necrosis Factors) that are able to induce systemic activation. β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan enhances macrophage production dramatically and to increase non-specific host resistance to a variety of bacterial, fungal, parasitic infections and tumor growth. β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan has a broad spectrum of immunopharmacological activities and is beneficial in the therapy of bacterial, viral, fungal diseases. It also enhances the effects of antibiotics. β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan is the only macrophage activator that is completely non-toxic, non-pathogenic and one of the most potent stimulators of non-specific immune response.
The oral effectiveness of β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan is proven by the fact that the fate of β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan taken orally differs from the one for other feed additives. β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan is acid-resistant so that it passes through the stomach virtually unchanged .further more, the intestine of animals lacks a specific enzyme (β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucanse) that could break it down to glucose or di-glucose, which can be absorbed through the intestinal wall.

The β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan configuration is primarily responsible for the enhanced immune abilities, but the β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan configuration by providing more bonding sites on its molecule is more effective than the β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan configuration. Most Beta Glucan products on the market are the β1, 3-D-Glucan as ingredient. The β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan is many times more effective than the β1, 3-D-Glucan in macrophage activation.

Biofeed β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan is highly purified:
The cell walls of the fungi Paecilomyces spp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae and
Ganoderma lucidum are the sources of the Beta-Glucan. The cell wall of these fungi is basically a glucose shell coated with an outer layer of mannoproteins. If the beta-Glucan is not sufficiently purified, with the manoprotein, plasma membrane and fibrillar layer (the outermost layer of the fungal cell wall) intact and not removed, then the inner beta-Glucan layer is not exposed – in other words, it will not be recognized by the beta-Glucan receptors on the macrophage. Most beta-glucans on the market are simply baker’s yeast or crude and impure beta-Glucan and will not have the full macrophage activating capability.

Midonization of beta Glucan:
Biofeed’s β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan is micronized to increase the surface area so that more β1, 3-β1, 6-D-Glucan configuration surface will be available for attachment to the macrophage for activation.
